Camco RhinoFLEX RV Sewer Hose Kit: 8 Year Review

When we bought our Milan Travel Trailer back in 2013, one of the first things I did before our first trip was to throw away the cheap sewer hose that came with it and buy a Camco RhinoFlex Sewer Hose Kit.

Since we have used this original sewer hose for almost 9 years, it is time to do a long-term review!

We have had several sewer hoses and fittings over the years. Given our experiences in the past, I am absolutely thrilled and actually quite surprised. The surprise is it still looks and works just like it was when we bought. It appears as if it is brand new. Not a single leak.

What I like about the kit

The hose

The hose is tough! The hose is made from a 23 mil (thickness) durable material. The reinforced steel wire allows the hose to extend to 15 feet in length.  Compressed (56 inches) it easily fits into our 4″ square steel bumper with room to spare.

In fact, I also store a RhinoFlex Extension hose in the bumper too, which extends to 5 feet in length, giving us a total of 23 feet of hose.

The hose fittings

They swivel making it easy to set up. Plus they don’t leak. Not even a drop. Included in the kit is a cap for each end of the hose.

Sewer adapter

Fits 3 inch slip or 3″, 3 1/2″ and 4″ threaded dump-station pipes. I have never had a single problem connecting to a dump pipe.

What I don’t like about it

The elbow is a solid white, so you cannot see what is coming out of the hose or if the holding tank has been completely emptied.

The good news is Camco now uses a clear elbow fitting with the RhinoFlex hose kit.

How we use it

We mostly only use the hose at dump stations, since we usually camp in unimproved campsites that do not have sewer connections. Over the past 8+ years we have camped with hook-ups probably less than a dozen times. A few of those times the hose had to be extended almost full length and a Sewer Hose Support helped to keep gravity working in our favor.

For those who are new to all of this, when connecting to a campground’s sewer system at your campsite, you want to keep the black water tank closed. Two reasons, the first is to keep the smells to a  minimum. The other is, it is better to allow the black tank as full as possible before dumping. The allows the waste to flow faster and more completely.

No problem leaving the gray water valve opened. Only gray water is dumped (no solids). In addition, the sinks and showers use p-traps (just like your house) eliminating any chance of smelly fumes into the living space of your RV.
