Mopeka Sensor Battery Replace and an Update

Mopeka App on my iPhone connects to all sensors via Bluetooth

I’m getting ready for a trip and checked the Mopeka sensors. Oh no! The right propane tank is full, but the sensor battery is low. I’ve had all the sensors for almost two years, and this is the only one that’s discharged. I think it’s a bad battery. In this post, I’ll show you how to replace it. It’s a simple task that anyone can do.

Battery Replacement Instructions

Here’s the sensor on my desk. I marked the center with an “L” so I make sure it goes to the proper propane tank when I remove the tanks for refilling. Each tank is marked Left or Right as are the sensors. This way I know which is which when looking at the app.

At the very bottom of the sensor are two alignment arrows. When the sensor is reassembled the arrows must match up, mostly because the green Sync button must be over the internal button switch.

There are four slots around the outer edge of the sensor (see image below). Using a small screwdriver, lift the top cover.

Red arrows mark the slots to insert your small screwdriver to lift off the top cover

Once the top is loose, separate the two haves of the sensor. (below)

Now replace the battery with a lithium CR2032 battery.

After the battery has been replaced, reassemble the two halves. You will need to do a new device sync.

Mopeka Sensor Update

The sensors have been a godsend. Especially the propane sensor. Earlier this year we were camping with temperatures in the low 30s F. After a couple of days I could see we were using too much propane and might run out before our trip was over. We adjusted how and when we heated the camper and were able to complete the trip without running out. Good thing too, because the nearest place that sold propane was over 70 miles away.

Here a link to the article I wrote when we first got the sensors for our propane tanks, fresh water and gray water tanks.

This link revisits how I updated the spacers for the propane sensor installation.
