You know, it’s a bit silly to call this a vacation since we’re retired and every day is a vacation for us. Anyway, we just got back from a month of camping in southern Nevada and southeastern California, which was a month of camping in the Mojave Desert.
After two weeks in the Sequoia National Forest we packed up for the second leg of our month of camping.
We still had over 50 gallons of fresh water on board. After hooking up the trailer to our truck, we drove a short distance to a water spigot in the campground and topped off the fresh water tanks. To off-load our black and gray water holding tanks, we had to drive about 30 miles to a dump station in the town of Isabella. We also stopped at a super market to get some fresh vegetables and other food items. A final stop, at a gas station to fill up the Ford F-250 and one of our propane tanks, completed our pre-trip tasks.

A few days ago we returned from a two week camping trip in the Mojave Desert of Southern California. We were concerned that one of our favorite camping spots might have been washed away by tropical storm Hilary. Our fears were unwarranted and, as usual, we had a great time.

Finally getting our lives back into normal mode. More about that later.
Southern California received an inordinate amount of rain the first three months of this year, which we desperately needed. Instead of being able to use my telescope every night at home, as in the past, I only had about 12 good nights for telescope use in the first quarter of 2023.
As many had hoped, some of our deserts experienced a wildflower super bloom. As the bloom reached its peak, the Coachella Music Festival opened. Along with the reported 250,000 fans that attended the festival, hordes of social media people descended upon our desert to take selfies and trample flowers.
Being rational people, Joyce and I left for the eastern Mojave Desert for a couple weeks of camping solitude.
We had been home only two weeks from our 2-month trip. It was time for another camping trip because, well just because.
Most years we are camping on Halloween to avoid the little beggars and extortionists who knock on our door on October 31st. Last year, due to COVID there were none. This year we can’t go camping that weekend due to my son getting married that weekend.
So we headed to the high desert for a pre-Halloween trip.
