The Wine Connoisseur at the Campsite

If you stop by my campsite (or home), I will probably offer you a glass of wine; to be exact, a glass of Gallo Family Cabernet Sauvignon. In the campground we usually have a glass in the late afternoon when we take Corky for a walk, and then cook dinner. The best part about these wines is that they can be had for $4.99 – $5.99 when they are on sale in the 1.5 liter size bottle. But I don’t buy them because of the price. I enjoy them.

Wine

Now, I will tell you that I have drunk wines that cost hundreds of dollars for a single bottle, but I wasn’t the fool that squandered that kind of money on drink. These wines, supposedly the pinnacle of the vintners’ art, are no better than my inexpensive wine of choice.

I am aware of the connoisseur’s art of sampling wine, which is really some sort of counterfeit chemistry that speaks of the aromas as metaphors of colors that have a palate or of a tinge of some tropical flower; along with tastes comparable to nuts, fruits, or even earthy soil. Really?

Beer

I know its heresy to many, but whatever low calorie light beer is on sale is just fine by me. IPA’s and other popular fads and colors of beer don’t grab my fancy. At the end of a hot day an ice cold Coor’s Light or Keystone Light is just fine. So if you stop by and don’t want a glass of wine, we usually have beer.

Margaritas

Another favorite beverage. We buy the pre-mixed stuff made by Jose Cuervo, throw it into a blender with some ice, and push the button. Yes, we have a blender in the camper!

If stop by our campsite and you don’t want wine or beer, we have Margaritas!

My Favorite Beverage

More than anything, I drink plain water – lots of it. Not the fancy bottled water but the cheap stuff that comes out of the water tap. Joyce bought one of those fancy refrigerators for the kitchen that dispenses ice and cold water; that’s the kind of technology I like! But Joyce always brings some bottled water on our camping trips.

Next to water, I mostly drink iced tea, and in the mornings coffee is the beverage of choice. So if you stop by our campsite and don’t want wine, beer, or a Margarita; we always have water, ice tea and coffee.
